Westchester County DEF distributes compost created at CompostED to residents of Westchester County through a series of community compost giveback events. In 2024, DEF has hosted 5 events and distributed 988 bags of compost to 490 residents.

For the upcoming Fall Compost Giveback Events, Westchester County's Office of Energy Conservation and Sustainability will also be joining to offer its Fall 2024 Community Compost Bin and Rain Barrel Sale. Backyard composting is an excellent way to reduce trash going to the waste-to-energy facility and make your own compost! Rain Barrels can help reduce water costs and provide a natural source of water for plants and gardens.

Fall 2024 Community Compost Bin Sale:

To purchase compost bins, rain barrels and other accessories, interested residents can explore our site https://westchester.compostersale.com/ to see what is being offered at this community sale. Items can be purchased through the link and picked up at the Compost Giveback Events on September 29 and October 6. Because we are purchasing in bulk, we are able to offer compost bins, rain barrels, and accessories at greatly reduced prices.
