Westchester County’s Boat Wrap Recycling program collects recyclable low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plastic that is used to protect boats during the winter. This plastic is normally thrown away when boats are unwrapped in the spring, and an average boat can use as much as 14 pounds of wrap.
Each spring, marinas along Long Island Sound and the Hudson River bring the wrap to any of the 22 designated collection points along the waterfronts.
Collected plastic is brought to the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Yonkers, where it is processed and sold to recyclers.
