Below is the schedule of upcoming Mobile Shredder truck appearances and the date of the second Household Material Recovery Day (H-MRD) this year.

Service at the events works on a first-come-first-served basis. In extreme weather, when working conditions are deemed unsafe, events may be cancelled or terminated early. Be advised that on occasion, at a highly attended event, the Mobile Shredder unit can reach its maximum capacity for paper shredding before closing time. Although infrequent, residents should be aware of this and open minded of the possibility of an early closure. On the day of an event, residents can call the county's Recycling HelpLine at (914) 813-5425 to check on a cancellation or early closure.

Mobile Shredder events
These events are a free, public service for Westchester County residents only. The following guidelines and conditions apply to residents wanting to make use of this service:

• The maximum delivery per household is four file boxes (approx. 10" x 12" x 15" in size) of personal and confidential documents.
• Documents from large or small businesses (including legal, accounting and medical practices) will not be accepted; they will be rejected.  Businesses should consult our partial list of document shredding services under Businesses, Schools, Others.

Medication take-back
Any prescription or over-the-counter pills, liquids, ointments and lotions can be brought in for proper disposal. Pet medications will be accepted too. Keep them in the original container or, if it's not available, put them in a sealable plastic bag. Liquid medications should be in their containers and inside sealable plastic bags. Wastes not accepted: sharps (needles and syringes). Bring medical sharps to a hospital or nursing home that accepts them. When the next event is announced, information will be posted here.

Household Material Recovery Days (H-MRD)

Follow these simple rules:

• Remember to close all bags and bottles tightly.
• All chemicals must be in original or labeled containers.
• Place all chemicals in a sturdy box and in the trunk of your car.

There is no fee, but pre-registration is required for 100 pounds or more of solid material or 25 gallons or more of liquid. To pre-register, call the Recycling HelpLine at (914) 813-5425.

• Waste Accepted: Automotive fluids (except motor oil), flammable liquids, metal, jewelry and furniture polish, preservatives, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, photo and swimming pool chemicals, fluorescent light bulbs including CFLs, fire extinguishers, propane tanks, electronic waste (computers and peripherals, televisions, cell phones, etc...) re-chargable batteries (including auto and button cell), household appliances (including air conditioners, refrigerators and dehumidifiers), mercury thermometers and thermostats, car tires (up to ten), expired or unused pharmaceuticals (prescription or over the counter - bring medications in their original bottle or container), and plastic grocery bags. • Wastes Not Accepted: Paint (oil & latex), motor oil, explosives (call your local police department for instructions), medical waste (except pharmaceuticals) or sharps (needles and syringes), construction and demolition debris (including wood), smoke & fire detectors (dispose in trash), and any materials from businesses, schools and institutions.
